Wow - it's been a long time since Arne posted to his blog- so I'm just stopping in really quickly to tell you that the Belrose stint has ended (our 7-8 piece band was a bit too rockin' for the place...)

If you happen to be near SF this Friday night (March 18, 2011) Arne will be playing bass with me and Livin' Like Kings at The Saloon, 1232 Grant Avenue (at Fresno) near Columbus.

Tuesday is Bluesday at The Belrose

I've taken a break from owning and operating studios for a while, and am enjoying playing bass in my band, Livin' Like Kings - we have a steady Tuesday night gig at the Belrose Theatre in San Rafael. I like playing at the Belrose because I enjoy playing music in a setting where people are there to listen to music. Call me old fashioned, but that's how I feel!

Here's how it goes: we open the doors at 7:00 and rehearse for a while, then we take a short break and play from 8-10:00 pm.

Sometimes, I invite some of my favorite local artists to sit in with the band. Recently, Lauren and Judge Murphy and Chip Roland sat in. Judge, Chip and I go way back to when I signed Zero to the Pop Mafia label in the 90's. The week before that, it was Prairie Prince - you get the idea. It's fun and good music.

Given these hard economic times, admission is only $5 and a one drink minimum. If you have more to contribute to the pot, great. The proceeds go to support local live music and non-profit arts programs.

Join Me on Tuesdays at The Belrose!

I like playing at the Belrose because I've never been a big fan of bars. They are too noisy and people don't go there to listen to music.
The night is growing by word of mouth. Here's the set up - from 7-8, the band learns a new tune, from 8-9 we open the rehearsal to the public, then we take a short 10 minute break and come back to play a short set. After that, I invite some of my favorite local musicians to sit in with the band. Last week, Prairie Prince came by to sit in. Prairie is a great drummer and visual artist, ans it's always great to see him.

All during the evening, Margie Belrose serves up some tasty beef chili, wine and beer. We love Margie, she's a colorful character, a true Marin treasure to the local theater community.
Admission is only $5. And the proceeds go to support local live music and non-profit arts programs. Hope you'll come by soon!
